Basic Loser Palm Springs

Nickie Nicolas was selected to represent her fitness training business in "The Basic Loser, Palm Springs", a weight-loss and fitness contest based on the television show, "The Biggest Loser".

The "Basic Loser" Palm Springs, is more "reality" than anything else. The contestants are challenged by living in their own environment, facing their daily problems and issues while taking on this new life change. They are truly responsible for their own progress. Along with fitness training, the contestants are given nutritional suggestions and are responsible for following it on their own.

These guys are truly committed to this new way of life and I am honored to be a part of their journey to a healthier fit life. Stay tuned to my website to find out more about the contest and the contestants.

About the Basic Loser Palm Springs Contest:

The “Basic Loser” weight loss contest began on Feb. 7th with 6 contestants & 3 training teams, with each team receiving 2 contestants. The contestants were given a “total fat factor”, which took into account weight, inches and body fat percentage. The contest is 12 weeks long and just like the T.V. show “The Biggest Loser”, a contestant gets eliminated after a specified amount of time. The first elimination took place 1 month into the contest on Mar. 7th. The person to be eliminated would be the person who lost the least amount based on the “total fat factor”.

The teams were named after the elements; my team was named as Team Earth. The man leading, Mike Hilger, was on my team. Halfway into the contest, 6 weeks later, Mike was still leading the contest, with a total of 28.5 lb & 6% body fat lost! At the beginning of the contest, Mike announced to me and my team that he was in pretty good shape, as he played singles tennis 3 times a week & rode his bicycle 22 miles daily. Taking this into account, we pushed him pretty hard on his first day and 12 minutes later he was in the bathroom, complaining of “heartburn”. I was afraid I had just killed my first contestant. We had to end the workout early that first day. I called him that night and the next day to make sure he was still alive. He was and began from there.

On that first day Mike could only do abdominal crunches resting between sets of 10. He could only do 5 leg lifts and only 8 push-ups. He could jog around the building, but that was about it. As of April 7th, 8 weeks into the contest, Mike is jogging 4-6 miles, 3 times a week. He continues to ride his bicycle, as a leisure activity. He has gotten faster on the tennis court. He is now able to do 20 leg lifts, with oblique twists. He does ab crunches at 3 sets of 10. Instead of resting in between sets, he turns over to do 3 sets of 10 push ups. Mike works out 3-4 hrs daily! He’s a machine.

Eight weeks into the contest, there are only 3 contestants left; and 2 of them are mine. As much as I’d like to take credit for the success of these guys, I realize that I have very little to do with it, and these guys are working their butts off. The third elimination took place on April 7th. There was only a 2 pound difference between the guy who was eliminated and Billy Lamar, my other contestant. Before the contest, Billy hadn’t worked out in years and his nutritional habits sucked. He was a fast food junkie. We changed that immediately. To his credit, he’s taken all the suggestions he’s been given. The results are evident. To date, Billy has lost over 30 lbs. and has gone from a size 44 to a size 36! He’s incredible!

The contest has another 4 weeks to go, with another elimination on April 18th. The grand finale is set for May 7th. I won’t even know who the winner is until that night. Through the motivation and energy of the Basic gym owner & contest sponsor, Hank Godlewski, the Basic Loser is being filmed for cable television. That’s right! The Basic Loser Palm Springs will air this fall.
